donation & recycling resources

Where can I recycle my...?

Check out the iRecycle app by Earth 911 for an excellent resource on where to recycle almost anything.
  • iRecycle, iTunes
  • iRecycle, Google Play

You can check Call2Recycle to see where you can drop off batteries, cellphones, and other electronics near you. Please don't put them in your trash or regular recycling!

Best Buy will accept all sorts of used tech and devices for recycling, regardless of where the items were bought it or how old they are. They'll take cameras, audio/video equipment, ink and toner, appliances, old computers and peripherals, and old cellphones. Check the website for more details. (And thank you to Mrs. Lowe's middle school class for the tip!)

Where can I donate my...?

  • For general donation of household goods and clothing, visit GreenDrop or DonationTown.org, where you can schedule a pickup of your items. Easy. My hot tip: don't wait till you have amassed items to donate. Schedule a pickup and you'll be forced to go around the house gathering things to donate.
  • You have books to donate? Try Better World Books. You can ship your books for free or drop them off at a drop location, of which there are lots! The books will be sold, recycled or donated. Better World Books partners with literacy organizations all over the world to provide books to people in need and help break the cycle of poverty.
  • You have old clothes that can't be donated because of their condition? H&M stores will accept them for recycling, regardless of condition, and will give you a coupon for a discount on your purchase. Nice!
  • Did you know about Apple's recycling program? You can either trade in your old device for an Apple Store gift card, or Apple will responsibly recycle your device if it no longer has value.
  • Want to donate a car or other vehicle? Wheels for Wishes will gladly accept your vehicle, and will use it to support Make-A-Wish, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
  • Goodwill will also accept vehicle donations (including boats, motorcycles, and almost any other vehicle) - regardless of whether it's in working condition.
